A wonderful night was had at our inaugural Marcus Oldham Race Night, held at Moonee Valley Race Course on Friday 20 November 2015.
The night was ours with 6 races generously sponsored by Ace Radio Broadcasters (Rowly Paterson past parent), The Bennett Group (David Gibbs current foundation committee), Stonehouse Thoroughbreds (graduate Ryan Arnel), Henry Dwyer Racing (graduate Henry), Woodside Park Stud (current parent Mark Rowsthorn) and MOCOSA.
Everyone was a winner with the generosity from Bordeaux and Beyond and Domaine Serisier (graduate Richard Serisier), who supplied every guest with a bottle of wine and every table with 2 amazing bottles of wine to win as well. Even our long time Council member Michael Moore had a horse that came in a close second on the night. Two graduates, Ryan Arnel and Henry Dwyer were interviewed by Racing.com and went live to air on (free to Air) at 8.20pm and promoted Marcus Oldham.
Amazing auction items were supplied by Reschke Wines (graduate Burke Reschke) with a 6 litre Reschke Vitulus Cabernet Sauvignon sold on the night to a winning bid of $1200 and a Tennis package donated by Hamish McLachlan that sold for $1850.
Flowers by the talented Daisy Gubbins, As Daisy Does, Cobram Estate Olive oil prizes generously donated by Cobram Estate, other silent auction items were donated by Moonee Valley and the Farmers DaughterProduce Store (Inverleigh). 22 tables were filled by past parents, graduates and corporate friends.
The night buzzed from start to finish, with music from the great band Buddy England and the Vi Queens, the talented John Deeks as MC, our surprise guest speaker the amazing first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, Michelle Payne. Michelle was received with a standing ovation and she gave us over 20 mins of her time to share some of her inspiring story. The evening had something for everyone; with races on the half hour, it was fast, fun, delicious, entertaining and a great way to spend a Friday night.
