Scholarships

Background

There are many scholarships on offer for students enrolled in the Farm Business Management, Agribusiness and Horse Business Management Courses at Marcus Oldham which offers direct financial assistance towards students' fees.

Scholarships are aimed at providing financial assistance towards the tuition fee for the respective course and are generally available for the first year of study and in some cases for subsequent years.

These scholarships have been made available through the generous support of sponsors, friends and families within the agricultural, agribusiness and horse industries.

See the NOW AVAILABLE tab above for information on application closing dates and when interviews will be conducted. New scholarships may be added throughout the year, so keep referring to the site for more information.

Advantages

Not Necessarily Academically Based

Scholarships do not necessarily go to applicants who have excelled academically at Secondary School. They are awarded to people based on personal qualities and to those who are likely to make a valuable contribution to the agricultural and equine industries in the future. Scholarships are also available to those who would not normally be able to undertake an education at Marcus Oldham College because of financial constraints.

Better than a Loan

Scholarships directly reduce the cost of the tuition which means that there may be a significantly reduced FEE-HELP obligation following graduation.

Other Benefits of a Scholarship

In some cases a scholarship may assist in finding work with a sponsoring organization. Being able to note on a CV that you hold a scholarship could also assist with further job opportunities. A scholarship can also assist in building further contacts through greater networking opportunities.

Obligation Free

In most cases scholarships do not bind you to working for the sponsoring organization.

"What are your goals and aspirations for the future", with your name at the top.

Additional Notes and Variations

  • For the Webb Scholarship  additional information is required and due to the nature of the specific scholarship questions, the general College question need not be answered - see specific scholarships for details.
  • Applications can be submitted for more than one scholarship, but applicants can only be the recipient of one scholarship in any one academic year. If applying for multiple scholarships, one copy of your CV and one copy of your College essay is sufficient.

Submission

Applications are to be received at Marcus Oldham College by no later than 5.00pm Victorian time, on the scholarship close date.

Applications may be submitted via:
  • Email: Scholarship Coordinator
  • Fax: (03)  5244 1263 made attention to Scholarship Coordinator
  • Post: Scholarship Coordinator, Marcus Oldham College, Private Bag 116, Geelong Mail Centre, Vic, 3221

Note: if submitting by post, please do not submit in a folder or use plastic sleeves.  A staple in the left hand top corner is sufficient.

Process

The following process is followed:

  • Acknowledgement of the receipt of the written application will be by email or mailed to the address on the CV
  • Applicants who are short listed for an interview will be advised approximately 21 days prior to the interview date
  • Interviews will be conducted at the College on the dates specified for each scholarship (Note: the College does not conduct scholarship interviews via telephone - with the exception of international applicants)
  • The successful applicant will receive a Scholarship Letter of Offer and will need to advise the College in writing of acceptance of the scholarship and obligations as a recipient within 7 days of written notification
  • The value of the scholarship will be deducted from the fees in the appropriate academic years(s) unless otherwise agreed to by the College.

In awarding scholarships there are a number of additional factors taken into consideration at the interview including committment to the agricultural or horse industry, personal presentation, academic performance and ability to communicate.

In the opinion of the interview panel, if no applicants are deemed to meet the selection criteria, scholarships may not be awarded.

The College reserves the right to extend the closing and interview dates.
